Queen's Award for Enterprise
The award, which has been approved personally by Her Majesty the Queen, on the recommendation of Prime Minister, is the premier national award for business excellence and winners were announced on the Queen's birthday on 21st April 2005.
Clinton Devon Estates is the oldest ever Queen's Award winner.
The Estates continues to remain a family concern and our commitment to the county and investment into the Estate's core elements such as the landscape, natural environment and the community, underpins all activity, long term planning and purpose.
In order to win the Award businesses must demonstrate an exceptional and positive contribution against the dimensions of sustainable development. Across the wide scope of our operations, we are able to demonstrate this by effectively integrating our diverse set of resources. This enables us to deliver significant benefits for the environment, through our forestry, heathland and farming operations, society, through provision of local affordable housing and public amenities, and the local economy, through the provision of premises for small local businesses and a high spend within the local community on goods and services.
The summary of the Queen's Award citation states "Clinton Devon Estates received the Award for the radical business integration of resources to deliver unique capabilities for managing a very complex countryside business on their 500 year old Estate in Devon.
Highlights of the application include: management of the Estate in line with recognised best practice standards such as Forestry Stewardship Council and the Countryside Stewardship Scheme, enhancement of biodiversity for example heathland management, innovative methods of minimising waste and energy use, and clear commitments to manage the Estate taking into consideration local community requirements.
The Estate is engaged with a local education initiative, provides affordable housing for local communities and makes significant donations to local good causes. Clear evidence of a management team committed to considering sustainable development in all its actions is in place."
We are proud to announce that we have been awarded the most prestigious business award in the UK, The Queen's Award for Enterprise, in the category for Sustainable Development.
